07.19.2011 - Press Release

RENAULT chooses EcoVadis to manage the Sustainable Development performance of suppliers.

Today EcoVadis announced it has been selected by RENAULT to set up an innovative platform to assess the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) performance of the car manufacturer's suppliers.

On the 12th of May 2010, the purchasing directors of RENAULT and NISSAN have signed a CSR charter dedicated to suppliers. This charter defines the approach of the Alliance in terms of security and quality, human rights, environment, confidentiality and ethics, as well as defines what is required from suppliers regarding these subjects. This document has been presented on the 4th of June in Japan during a symposium gathering of 900 suppliers.

RENAULT now wants to reinforce this policy trough a collaborative platform allowing the evaluation and improvement of Environmental and Social performances of its key suppliers.

EcoVadis has built together with RENAULT an innovative platform, allowing for the combination of suppliers evaluation « EcoVadis SP », CSR follow up audits by RENAULT Quality experts, the scheduling of third party audits, as well as monitoring of supplier engagements.

The EcoVadis SP solution allows RENAULT to evaluate and follow the environmental and social performance of its key suppliers in more than a 100 countries. Thanks to the EcoVadis solution, RENAULT’s buyers will have access to their suppliers’ evaluation, based on 21 environmental and social criteria, as well as the specific stakes of more than a 100 of purchasing categories.

“The development of Sustainable Procurement policies corresponds to a deep commitment that is taken over at each level of the company. We have set up a “Supplier CSR” charter together with Nissan, and clauses about sustainable development are added to tenders and contracts. But we wanted to go even deeper by engaging our suppliers in the continuous improvement of their sustainability performance”, declared Stéphane Lasfargue, Co-Innovation and Supplier Sustainable Development Manager at RENAULT. “The EcoVadis platform appears as an excellent solution to reinforce this initiative with our suppliers but also with our operational buyers.”

EcoVadis Managing Director and co-founder Pierre-François Thaler adds: “We are very happy to collaborate with RENAULT, which is the 1st car manufacturer to have engaged in such an advanced enterprise. Trough this collaborative platform, RENAULT and EcoVadis also wish to give the possibility to other big manufacturer to cooperate in order to improve the environmental and social conditions of supply chains”
